Athens Digital Lab 2nd Open Call Launch

 

Athens Digital Lab (ADL), after the successful first round and its first year of operations, is once again looking for original digital ideas, which are leveraging technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) opportunities, and the creative Greek youth and that will transform Athens into a real smart city, addressing the real needs of the Athenians and highlight the multi-faceted identity of the city.

Athens Digital Lab of the City of Athens was created with an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), by Athens Partnership with the cooperation of COSMOTE and Nokia and it’s now ready to announce the second open call for “smart cities” digital solutions. Registrations will be accepted by Monday, December 17, 2018.

Athens Digital Lab calls early-stage startups, teams of researchers, students and those who have been active in the technology sector, to submit digital ideas that tackle the urban challenges that the city is facing, improve the quality of life of Athens’ residents, visitors, as well as the Municipality’s services.

The proposals are requested to cover one of these themes:

  1. Tourism
  2. Crisis Management
  3. Cleaning
  4. Mobility Data
  5. Schools Infrastructure
  6. Open Theme

Regarding the “Tourism” theme, the applicants will be able to work with MasterCard and This is Athens by utilizing information for the visitors of the city. In addition, for the “Mobility Data” theme, Athens Digital Lab is working with Beat, thebeat.co, which can act as a platform to the solutions to be developed, facilitating the installation of data collection on its network.

Following the evaluation of the submitted proposals, up to 10 teams will be selected to join Athens Digital Lab. They will be able to work for at least six months in a modern and fully equipped workplace, at Serafio of the City of Athens, having all the necessary technical and financial resources to implement their proposal, through the exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). Additionally, the teams will have at their disposal technical advisory support from executives of the Municipality of Athens, Nokia and COSMOTE, the necessary hardware and software, access to Nokia IMPACT IoT platform, network infrastructure by COSMOTE, the possibility of real field testing and access to Athens Municipality’s real data for the development of their solutions.

The solutions that will be developed will be adopted in the municipality of Athens for two years and, at the same time, the teams with the support of COSMOTE and Nokia will have access to Greek sales channels and a dynamic international network.
